Just 10 years ago the world was in an uproar anticipating massive blackouts and computer failures that would create international chaos.  But the big switch came without a glitch and we moved into the 21st century.  Already a tithe of the millennium has passed (church-lingo for 10 years) and we are about to step into a new decade.  What does this mean for our world, the church and women in ministry?  What will be our role in shaping the next generation, influencing the global village, changing sexist practices in the workplace and in the Christian community?  How will God's call on your life advance His Kingdom?  Let us hear from you.

Declare the Decade: In 25 words or less, share your expectations for God's work in your life in 2010.

This year I have experienced countless highs and lows (I’m sure some of you can relate). However, God has proven His faithfulness to the good plans He has for my life. By His grace I have maintained a positive attitude and a grateful spirit because “we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28 NASB) God allows the circumstances of life for our maturity which is always for our good and His glory.  Growing into a mature person is not a quick process but we can be thankful for the wisdom and love of God to provide exactly what we need to be the healthy, fruitful and vibrant witnesses for Him; “oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, the He may be glorified.” (Isaiah 61:3b NASB)  Here are my thoughts about a few things I know most plants, trees and vines need to grow. Think about these things and give thanks for God’s growth plan for your life.

Plants need light to grow. Our Lord is the Light we need to live and grow up as strong testimonies of His power and grace. In the darkest days, the loving light of our Lord is still present and we only need to keep looking up to Him in order to live. Temptations, attacks and challenges come to hide the light of God’s loving care just like dark clouds on an otherwise sunny day. But just as the sun continually shines regardless of eclipsing clouds, so the Son is always interceding for us and in Him we have every thing we need for life, godliness and growth. Let’s thank God for the Light of Life and His steadfast love and mercy that endures forever.

Plants need water to grow. We all need to be refreshed and there is nothing like a deluge of water in a parched and dry winter. Pouring rains are like refreshing relationships in a dry season. I thank God for the relationships that have been a source of inspiration to me especially when I felt dry. Encouraging words and affirming comments keep us uplifted and positive lest we become sullen and negative in the journey. Thank God for every person who called, sent an encouraging email, text message or postcard. Thank God for the tokens of affection and the laughter shared with people that bless our lives. Appreciate the kindness and the affirmation received because it is the refreshing water we need to live!

Plants need soil to grow. The best soil has some mixture of fertilizers, without it the plant will not be nourished. Fertilizer does not smell good but it can make a huge difference in the growth of the plant. In order to transform us there must be several “fertilizer” moments that won’t be pleasant but they help us grow. Therefore, we can’t afford to become bitter when people or situations are unpleasant in life. Instead we must take from every situation something good that will strengthen our faith and character. Thank God for the “stuff” (fertilizer) He’s used to enrich your life so you can bear more fruit for His glory. It didn’t come to destroy us but only to make us stronger so we must be grateful.

I’m sure you can add to this list with insights on how God is growing us for His glory. Feel free to share and let’s thank God together. Happy Thanksgiving!

When I attended the 2008 HCM conference in Clear Lake I had not been officially divorced for long and the entire experience had left a chasm in the very depths of my soul. I was plagued with anger, resentment and bitterness and entertained myriad thoughts on how to execute upon those I perceived as having hurt me – the same type of torment I was experiencing.

It was a miracle that I even made it to that conference because it was not in the budget. Somewhere in asking God to deliver me from my misery I believed it was imperative that I attend. I pressed, pushed and stretched until I was able to make it. The teaching, worship and the introspection that I experienced at that conference was the true beginning of my healing process. All my prayers over the previous months for God to help me came to fruition during that weekend. I could literally feel myself empty my soul and lay my innermost thoughts at the feet of God as I was simultaneously being refilled with a new determination. I was assured that I am still usable and precious to Him.

As we approach the 2010 HCM conference my spirit is already excited about the measure of growth in grace I will experience. My anger, resentment and bitterness have become lessons learned about listening more closely to God. The pain has subsided and God has soothed my soul with His love, mercy and abounding grace. I am waiting, anticipating and praying that God allows me to attend the 2010 Conference & Retreat Experience because I know for it will be a top quality feast of the Word and my soul will again be renewed and touched by the presence of the Holy Spirit.

When I received my calling, no one was more surprised than me!  Yes, I had been raised in the church.  Yes, I was active in the church. Yes, I thirsted for His word.  Yes, I really loved the Lord.  Yes, I felt that God had a calling for me.  Yet, I never felt that any of that was leading to this magnificent responsibility we call ministry.  I knew the person I was when I wasn't at church, when I wasn't reading my Bible, or participating in a ministry at church.  I knew how many times I had not lived up to His great gift of salvation.  I had feelings of  unworthiness that you probably can't imagine.  Or maybe you can . . .

After much discourse with and guidance from my pastor, I accepted the call to preach the gospel and was licensed.  Then I thought, "What now?"  God wasn't directing me to a specific ministry, I just kept hearing, "Attend seminary."  My mind just couldn't grasp how to accomplish it.  I had a demanding job with a tremendous amount of business travel.  Then, along came the HER Call Ministries Conference and Retreat Experience.

Attending the conference was truly a life changing event for me.  Each session, seemed specifically designed for me.  Did I need to learn how to deal with part of me that was still resisting the life the Lord called me to live? Did I need to see other powerful woman of God who had stepped out on His word?  I got that and more!  I stopped thinking with my limitations and allowed God's awesome possibilities to become a part of my reality!  I returned from the conference determined to attend seminary and  I am now completing my second year.  I also have a group of encouragers, peers who are in my corner, that I might not otherwise have met had I not attended the conference.  I am eagerly awaiting the 2010 Conference and Retreat Experience.  If He can clear a path to seminary in 2008, I can't wait to see how He opens my eyes in 2010!  Don't miss your blessing, sign up for the conference and get ready to have your life changed!
